The political landscape is becoming clearer
Passing the 20,000 mark on SAVE ME Facebook is a thrill. Well done all of you SAVE ME soldiers out there... much love - from me, and from the foxes. Of course there is still a long way to go. But I am hugely grateful for where we are, only a couple of weeks after the birth of this venture.
The political landscape is becoming clearer. The polarisation of the Tory and Labour parties on the issue of blood-sports is almost, but not quite, total. New results of polling candidates just published by LACS say that, out of 360 Labour candidates, only ONE supports a repeal of the Hunting ban. This is of course the notorious Kate Hoey, leader of the Countryside Alliance. What she is doing in the Labour Party, it’s hard to imagine!! So voting Labour, as a general principle, has got to be good for those who care about foxes, hares and stags. The LACS figures for the Liberal Democrats are 197 for keeping the ban and 12 opposed to it. So the Liberal Democrats, on the whole, are also looking pretty good for the interests of our wild animals, though it will be important to know which way YOUR candidate will vote. That’s where our chart should be able to help. Our own findings suggest that the Green Party are also a safe bet in this area, though not all the results are in. That’s the GOOD news.
However, in the ranks of Conservatives, LACS have had similar findings to us... in that many of them refuse to answer the question. Among those who did answer, 26 wanted to uphold the ban, and 147 were in favour of repeal. Sadly, our fears that the Conservative party has been ‘stacked’ to represent the interests of the Countryside Alliance seem to have been justified. The Conservative leaders are now very cleverly trying to pretend the issue is not important to them, because they know it will lose them votes if people realise what is really happening here. Sadly, too, most of our National Newspapers have helped them to keep it quiet. So what it comes down to, in a nutshell, is, although there ARE some good, animal-loving Conservative candidates out there (you’ll can consult our WHERE THEY STAND chart to find them)... somehow, to avoid a total disaster for our wild animals... it’s absolutely vital to stop the Conservatives from winning this election. This is not a conclusion we have come to lightly. But it’s inescapable.
This week, because of the imminent danger, we feel the message needs toughening up a little. It has become more and more apparent that if Cameron is allowed by the voters to form a government, THIS COUNTRY WILL EFFECTIVELY BE GOVERNED BY THE COUNTRYSIDE ALLIANCE. It’s as awful as that. This small bunch of rich and powerful land-owners and businessmen who make a fortune out of rural activities - the same bunch of people who mobilised their supporters to march on London saying “You Townies don’t understand us” - this same gang will be asking the Townies to put them into power at this election. Hunting shooting and fishing Dave C will be at the head of them... and they will be able to ride, rough-shod, whooping and hollering, over us all. It’s such a horrific scenario - terrifying - yet they have been so clever in infiltrating the positions of power in this country, they are within an ace of pulling it off.
We need to make a lot of noise in the next two weeks to make the majority of good British people hear us.
Because the vast majority of British people still do not realise what is going on behind Cameron’s thin smile.
