WELSH BADGERS: Make your opinion heard on badger culling

U-R-G-E-N-T: PLEASE register your objections to proposed Badger Cull in WALES....

ANYONE wishing to express their opinion on proposed legislation for badger culling has just a few days to make their voice heard, as the deadline looms.

The Welsh Assembly government is consulting on proposals for badger culling, as part of a programme to eradicate bovine TB in cattle in an ‘Intensive Action Area’ in a defined part of west Wales. Wales’ Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones is reminding anyone with a view on the issue that there are just days to go until the consultation closes on December 17.

Under the proposals, there would be an annual government-managed cull of badgers, over a five year period in a specified area of west Wales.

The cull would take place alongside the strict additional cattle controls already introduced in the Intensive Action Area.

The minister said: “I have read and considered carefully the science and evidence of culling, and other strategies, before coming to my provisional view that a cull of badgers in the Intensive Action Area is necessary. I launched a consultation on my proposals for a cull in September this year, and so far we have had a good response. With days to go, this is the final chance for anyone who has yet to respond to let us have their views. All responses will be taken into consideration before I take a decision next year.”
