TB or not TB, that is the debate question

EVESHAM JOURNAL
6 January 2011

THE hot topic of bovine TB will be debated at The Pershore Conference, organised by the Pershore and Upton-on-Severn branch of the NFU, at the Frank Parkinson Centre, Pershore College, on Thursday, January 20.

TB or no TB is the theme of the conference and the debate will range around how it can be tackled.

“Following the change in Government policy we have an opportunity to deal with the disease head on,” said Pershore and Upton branch group secretary Ray Foster-Morison. “This will require co-operation between all the landowners in the affected areas so it is important that we have an open debate about the facts.”

The conference will be chaired by Dr David Hall, a former principal of Pershore College, and the line-up of speakers includes Gwyn Jones, NFU vice-president, a dairy farmer in West Sussex; Dr Gavin Wilson, of the Food and Research Agency where the current work is mainly focused on research and implementation of the vaccination of badgers for bovine TB; Jack Reedy, of the Badger Trust;and Kevin Pearce, NFU head of food and farming.

The conference is sponsored by Carver Knowles and Crowthers and Mr Foster-Morison said there would be ample opportunity for questions from the audience.

The conference starts at 7.30pm and places can be booked by calling Bea Mealing on 01684 853400 or by e-mailing beamealing@ carverknowles.co.uk.
