Some of the biggest beasts in Welsh politics will sit in the Senedd for the last time on March 30 before stepping down and making way for a new generation of AMs. David Williamson asks the men and women who helped shape the first decade of devolution how they will use their final months on the frontline of Welsh democracy

Lorraine Barrett, Labour AM for Cardiff South and Penarth, said she was preparing to “clear the decks ready for my successor”.

She is particularly proud of her work to protect racing greyhounds but said: “My biggest disappointment as an AM is the proposed badger cull. I will never accept that killing badgers will bring any meaningful improvement in the battle against Bovine TB and will probably make things worse.

“Before I retire, I hope my efforts, along with a few other AMs, a huge band of supporters across Wales, and the Badger Trust, will bring about a change of mind from the Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones.”
