PETITION: Be one of the million against the cull

21 April 2011
URGENT PETITION from League Against Cruel Sports:
Please sign now!
21 April 2011

The League opposes the proposed badger cull on two main grounds. Firstly, a cull would fly in the face of scientific evidence about how to control the spread of bovine tuberculosis, and could even exacerbate the problem. And secondly, authorising a cull would create a new bloodsport by licencing the shooting of badgers for gun-toting volunteers. Please sign our urgent petition, which callsfor a badger vaccination programme instead of a cull. You can also download the petition and encourage your family and friends to sign too.

Giving the go-ahead for a new bloodsport
When politicians talk about the need for a cull, they don't like to dwell for long on the disturbing reality behind their words. The word "cull" sounds innocuous, almost inoffensive; and it neatly masks the brutal truth of what a cull would entail. By legitimising the killing of badgers, and allowing volunteers to trap and shoot them in their thousands, this cull would create a new bloodsport. Watch this video to see an un-sanitised version of what cruelty to badgers looks like.

WARNING: this video contains footage which some may find extremely disturbing.

Why the badger cull is wrong
Campaigner Liam Raftery draws together the evidence and explains why a badger cull would be both unnecessary and ineffective. Liam explains how the cull ignores scientific research, and puts forward the case for a badger vaccination programme. He also explains the League's concerns that a cull could lead to the creation of a horrific new bloodsport. More....
