LETTER FROM BADGER TRUST
19 May 2011

Dear All,

We would like to draw to your attention an article published in The Guardian on 17th May 2011 which includes a link to a report published by the Farming Regulation Taskforce. You can read the Guardian article by opening the following link:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2011/may/17/farming-regulation-tb-cattle-milk

We suggest that you should also read the Report of the Farming Regulation Taskforce which includes reference to the protection of wildlife. In particular, see 11.11 on page 130 which reads "We are pleased that the Government is considering wide reform of wildlife management legislation including the Badgers Act. The Act was drawn to our attention as having particular resonance with many in the farming community. We heard that its need and purpose should be reconsidered in the light of current badger numbers."

We would also take this opportunity to remind you that we wrote to you on 21st April 2011 by e-mail headed "Keep Protection for Wildlife and the Environment". This e-mail gave you a link to a petition organised by 38 Degrees. The link is

http://www.38degrees.org.uk/dont-scrap-environment-laws

To date 51,455 people have signed and 38 Degrees are aiming for 75,000. Please sign if you have not already done so.

In the same e-mail we also provided a link to the Government's Red Tape Challenge website where it is possible to leave direct feedback. To date 683 comments have been left in respect of Biodiversity, wildlife management, landscape, countryside and recreation. Again, it is an opportunity to contribute your opinion if you have not already done so. The link is

Please circulate this e-mail to others who may be interested.

Best wishes,
Pat Hayden,
Vice Chairman,
