Badger cull challenge WEDNESDAY - Please let your AM and all the North Wales AMs know your thoughts on the badger cull BEFORE Wednesday by phone or email (if you have not already done so, as I know many of you have). Don’t forget to write in your address

Suggest open with polite sentence and ask for support for:

Motion to annul Badger (Control Area) Wales Order 2011.

Item 3: Motion to annul the NDM4697

This coming Wednesday 23rd March

Some suggested reasons:

Consultation response (very poorly advertised) 4:1 against Result ignored! Money wasted!

The scientific evidence does not support the view that culling badgers will have a significant impact on the eradication of bovine TB £50 million spent killing badgers in the most exhaustive scientific trial ever done with the final summary comment by Professor Bourne stating “killing badgers has no meaningful part to play in reducing bTB”.
Science ignored! Money wasted, badgers wasted!

There are significant reductions in the incidence of bovine tuberculosis in Wales over the last two years without any badgers having been killed. This followed the introduction of stringent and effective cattle controls - measures which had been recommended by scientists as the only solution for some time. These measures included improved surveillance and cattle disease controls, linking compensation to good practice, enforcing the testing regime and establishing a regional approach to the disease. Result dismissed for incorrect reasons
(See Badger Trust or PAC website)

In the recent Judicial review the WAG lost to the Badger Trust on all three counts relating to badgers and justification to cull–cost to tax payer
Money wasted!

Powers granted to force entry on to land
- Dangerous empowerment of the State with potential consequences beyond this issue.

Ann Jones, the AM for Rhyl is voting for the motion in spite of the whip – she deserves thanks.

Bear in mind when the elections arrive who was supportive!

Many thanks (hopefully deserved)

Betty
