Minister’s wild assertions peddled by wildlife magazine

The Badger Trust has countered a series of unsustainable assertions attributed to Mr James Paice, the Minister for Environment and Food in an article in the BBC Wildlife Magazine of May 2012. 

They were: 

Mr Paice: “Shooting animals at night is a commonplace countryside activity – I’ve been doing foxes for years”. The difference is that the 70 per cent “success” rate required would have to be proved, and as the interviewer rightly comments, there is doubt as to whether this method could achieve that figure. 

The author, James Fair, mentioned the 25,000 cattle slaughtered each year because of bovine TB (bTB but failed to set that against the estimate four years ago of ten times as many cattle prematurely slaughtered annually because of other diseases and conditions [1]. Read More
